Coven

The Coven, also known as "The Occult Foundation," is a mysterious and powerful spellcaster society that operates within Esperanto. As one of the Three Pillars of Esperanto, it oversees magical education and regulation throughout Esperanto's territories. Most people simply associate The Coven with higher education and the intelligentsia. However, its primary goal is the mission to eradicate Divine Magic and those who use it from existence.

Practices

Siblinghood

Traditional Magic spells in Hanaq are notoriously difficult to learn. Access to materials teaching these spells is gatekept behind the Siblinghood system.

To become a full member or "Sibling" of the Coven, an individual must undergo the Pact of Siblinghood, a Rank 8 Occult Ritual. This ritual ensures that:

Every spell cast by the Sibling is recorded in a ledger in an undisclosed location.
Siblings can only cast spells they're cleared for by the Coven.
Unauthorized spell use results in a heart attack for the caster.

Magical Oversight

The Coven's influence extends to magical regulation, research, and regulatory enforcement in political affairs. It also collects magical artifacts and items deemed too dangerous for individual use.

Spells that are rank 5 and beyond are officially not allowed for use without the spell being taught by a Coven Professor.

Spells that are rank 8 and beyond are strictly forbidden to anyone who isn't a Sibling, a restriction even Armada struggles with.

Organization

The Coven operates through a hierarchical yet relatively flat organization that emphasizes both institutional leadership and personal bonds.

Hierarchy

The Moirai - The three supreme witches who lead the entire organization.
Magisters/Magistras - Leaders who oversee major institutional facilities such as universities, containment centers, or being the permanent Coven presence on Armada bases.
Professors - Experienced members who lead colleges within universities or command multiple circles during complex operations. Often separate from their original circles to mentor younger Siblings.
Siblings - Full members who have undergone the Pact of Siblinghood. Informally distinguished as "younger" or "older" based on experience.

Circles

The fundamental operational unit of the Coven is the circle, a small team of usually three Siblings who typically remain together for life. These tight-knit groups advance through the ranks together, developing specialized skills and reputations over time.

Divine Magic

A primary objective of the Coven is the eradication of all divine magic within Esperanto's territories. The Coven is dead set on suppressing cults and other religious threats to The Union. Its primary targets are Oracles. Oracles who are captured by the Coven are never seen again.

Started in Hollow Deep University, CHIMERA is an initiative to create living weapons that can hunt down pirates and oracles.
